I have been given a retainer to wear for my teeth as they are quite uneven and crooked. I have been wearing it and my teeth have been moving but I noticed its causing my gum to bleed as well as some of my teeth to cross each other. I’ve recently been in New York for 3 months at a boarding school and I took my retainer out, wrapped it in tissue (as I didn’t have the case at the time) and put it on top of my drawers. I’ve now been back since Monday and I don’t know where its gone. I seriously don’t think i’ve chucked it away when I was cleaning the room and packing as I would’ve easily felt something in the tissue, but i’m seriously not entirely certain! I went to the dentist today and she said that I have to bring it in next week (as I have another appointment)! Obviously she doesn’t know i’ve lost it and neither do my parents. I’m panicking because my mum can get angry! I don’t know what to do. I am with the oasis medical dental care group and also NHS. Will it cost getting a new retainer? How should I tell my dentist and worst of all my parents? I need big help because I feel like crying!
It sucks to have to own up to a mistake that you think will get you in trouble, but you need to.
I lost my bottom retainer and never replaced it. My teeth moved back to a degree and while not awful, are somewhat crooked. Trust me, your parents would rather pay another $300 for a retainer than to have you waste several years and thousands of dollars undoing the dental work. You can always offer to mow the lawn and stuff like that to pay them back if you don’t have a job to give them cash.

Of course you have to tell. Call the dentist’s office right now. It’s unfair to them. They have a specific appointment planned for you and won’t be able to do a thing unless they know what’s up.
The dentist/orthodontist who made the original retainer for you might replace it – once – for free. It depends on their office policy.
So take a deep breath, and make some phone calls. Retainers are lost all the time. It’s okay. But you do have to let people know.
All the best.

you need to call your Orthodontists right away, (like after you read this) because it is very important you have it
