  • What is the difference between news story and article?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I have AP government summer homework. We need to find 5 articles spanning the month of July and August. We also need to maintain a journal that contains 3 news stories and a one paragraph opinion on each news story that is also spanning the month of July and August. I just realized that the teacher used different words to describe the assignment. My guess is that news story contains a cluster of related articles that complete a story. And an article is a single piece of journal writing. I really need to know, otherwise I can’t do my homework correctly. Thank you so much for whoever tries to answer appropriately!!

A news story is a piece that is written as the news is developing, a news article is a piece that is written after the story has developed. As an example things written about the raising the budget ceiling prior to the vote, and giving that result are news stories. The stuff written afterwards analysing who won or lost and what the result will be for the country are articles. Some of what was written before the vote were articles if all they did was report on the positions of the various groups in Congress without adding any new details.

  • How long before a moved Wikipedia article is under the changed name on Google?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

After you move a wikipedia article (change the title of it), how long does it take for the article title to appear modified when you search for it on Google and other search engines? I’ve already redirected the past titles of the article to the new, moved page. Thanks for the help. :)

It depends on a variety of factors, including how many incoming links there are to the original article (if any), whether or not Google Analytics is used on pages making those links, and how well the Google web-crawlers are performing that day. There’s also some randomness and luck involved. It usually takes no more than 48 hours, but we’ve heard of it happening in as little as 30 minutes.

  • What are some techniques used by feature article authors to convey the article’s content?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I am doing an English assignment where I have to analyze a feature article and explain 5 techniques which the author has used to captivate the reader. I only have 4 (statistics, quotes, contrast, camera angles)! Are there any other common techniques that feature article authors use to convey the article’s content?

an ear/eye catching opening sentence

metaphors used to give common words life

quotations used to give characters personalities

  • What You MUST Avoid Before Submitting To Article Directories?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Article Directories are great sources for link building and traffic that can support your SEO work for FREE. Many of the big article directories, such as Hubpages, are now using sharing revenue models for their publishers. You will loose nothing by submitting your articles to these directories, but in return, you will benefit a lot.

Is it that easy to submit your articles to these directories?

Surely its easy but then you need to be patient and have to build links frequently. Not one article will help. You need to keep a proper ratio of quality and quantity to get results. Time, patience, quality and hard work is required, rest is easy.

  • For people with experiencie in Article Revenue Sharing: How long before starting to make money?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I started with article revenue sharing about 1 month ago, I write for 4 sites, and averaging 2 articles per day (I have over 60 articles now).

My question is, how long will those articles take to start making me money? I know they have to rank in Google, anyone knows how long does that take?

Any experiencie will be helpful!

I tried this for a couple of months on a couple of sites, but didn’t have much luck with it. I think I only put up like 30 articles and they really didn’t get many hits and my earnings were only pennies, so I gave up. I just didn’t have time to keep at it (and honestly speaking, my writing skills aren’t all that great), and it all just seemed pointless for pennies. I ended up starting my own informational travel website and have found some success with it. I use Google Adsense, which, though it took me a year to reach my first $100 payout, it still was worth more than the revenue sharing sites (maybe if I had stuck with them this would be different) but the ads alone more than paid for the domain name and hosting I had to buy. Things seem to be picking up this year too, and I figure it can only get better from here.

I’d be interested to hear what other people have to say about the revenue sharing site though, maybe I should have given them a longer trial?
