  • Are dental patients under the same privacy protection laws as medical patients are?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

In other words, what happens in the office stays in the office? Are the non-professional staff instructed in this, too?

Yes. HIPAA covers all offices that retain private personally identifiable health information. Medical, dental, mental health, etc. are all required to follow HIPAA standards. Anyone working for the business, professional and non, is required to be trained and sign forms on the privacy laws.

  • do I have a dental malpractice case?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I went to the dentist to a general check up. Dentist told me that I have a couple of small cavities in my left wisdom teeth. Ultimately, she suggested that they fill the cavities. The initial shuts for the procedure felt truly painful and abnormal. But, dentist told me that it is normal when procedure is done for wisdom tooth. Additionally, during the procedure dentist and her assistant were consistently tried to open my mouse bigger and bigger. After the procedure was done doctor told me that I will feel pain and discomfort for the next several days. Ten days later, I still could only open my mouth about 1.5 fingers, left side of my face is still hurting, my left ear and left side of my neck is hurting as well. I feel that my teeth do not align the same way they did before the procedure. I have called the dentist and they invited me to stop by the office. In office dentist told me that complications resulted from procedure because my mouth was open too big. She told me that I have to see TMJ specialist. However, they could not refer me to anyone. Instead they gave me a sticky note with the phone number to some dental school that might be able to recommend me to someone. I asked who is going to pay for the medical treatments and they said that I need to contact my insurance company and discuss this matter with them. I opposed, stating that complications arised from the procedure. They said that it is not the case. I asked to invite the doctor, they refused. Additionally, I requested my dental records (copies), on which they refused as well. Meanwhile, I have contacted my general doctor and waiting for the referral to a specialist. I truly feel that this dental office should be responsible for their negligence. I am not sure what my exact diagnose but my symptoms are very disturbing.

I cannot help with any of the other, but as far as your dental records are concerned this is the law for Texas as copied from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners website. I do not know where you live though.

A dentist shall furnish copies of dental records to a patient who requests his or her dental records.
Requested copies including radiographs shall be furnished within thirty (30) days of the date of the
request, provided however, that copies need not be released until payment of copying costs has
been made. Records may not be withheld based on a past due account for dental care or treatment
previously rendered to the patient.
(1) A dentist providing copies of patient dental records is entitled to a reasonable fee for copying
which shall be no more than $25 for the first 20 pages and $0.15 per page for every copy
thereafter.
(2) Fees for radiographs, which if copied by an radiograph duplicating service, may be equal to
actual cost verified by invoice.
(3) Reasonable costs for radiographs duplicated by means other than by a radiograph duplicating
service shall not exceed the following charges:
(A) a full mouth radiograph series: $15.00;
(B) a panoramic radiograph: $15.00;
(C) a lateral cephalometric radiograph: $15.00;
(D) a single extra-oral radiograph: $5.00;
(E) a single intra-oral radiograph: $5.00.
(4) State agencies and institutions will provide copies of dental health records to patients who
request them following applicable agency rules and directives.

  • Any websites available for basics of dental equipment?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I have a new job as market researcher of a small dental practice. Part of my job duties is to be able to competently sell these chairs at a huge convention. I must say my background is not in dentistry.
Are there any beginner books or websites that you can recommend?

Thanks

Is your new job not giving you sales material, prehaps a list of features? If not, maybe you should try visiting some local offices that already use the chairs which you are selling. Ask questions like, what they like best about the chair? Also ask if you can question some patients, do they think it’s comfortable? Uses the answers to compile a list of things you can point out to potential buyers at the conventions. Things like adjustable head/neck rests make it more comfortable the the patient, and easier to for the doctor to position the patients head for a better line of sight. Also controls on both sides of the chair make it ideal for both the doctor and assistant to adjust the patient. They are glorafied lazy-boys! You will do fine, and if you don’t, we have a lot of patients who ask us where they can get one of our chairs for their house!

  • The biggest suppliers/distributors for the dental market in the USA?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Which companies are the biggest suppliers/distributors for the dental market in the USA?
I’m with the manufacturer of waterproof keyboards and mice – selling those products to the dental industry seems to be not a bad idea. I’m wondering who else except Schein and Patterson might be interested in distributing it for us…

  • Dentist Marketing and Advertising Ideas
    posted by Kris Nickerson

In the world of dentistry, dentists are consumed with ways to increase their new patient count. There are the typical advertising venues such as the yellow pages, your local newspapers, and chamber of commerces. Those do well for dentists, but there are other ideas that can greatly increase the new patient count for dentists. Some of those ideas: The local welcoming service- A great way to introduce your practice to new families that have just moved into the community. New families are looking for a dentist, why not your practice. Another great idea is that of network groups in the community. These networks are a great way to make friends, spread the word of who you are and what you do. The third thing that I have seen that works quite well in our day and age is the internet. You must have a website today to survive the competition of other dentists.

Ok so you have a website? Are you getting any calls from the website? I doubt it. You must have the site optimized. SEO companies are great to help optimize your site, build links for your site, and make sure the content is best suited for the search engines. You will then see new patients from your website!

The last idea that I have personally seen work quite well for increasing new patient counts for dentists is that of advertising online in directories. You have directories such as 1800dentist.com, www.circlecitydentists.com, usadentistguide.com, and many others. The directories online can be a great place to acquire new patients, mainly because the positioning of the directory is so good. They also do not cost a lot of money. In summary these are some great ideas that can quickly build your dental practice.

  • American Cosmetic Dental Association Launches Acda.com
    posted by Kris Nickerson

AMERICAN COSMETIC DENTAL ASSOCIATION an Online Network of Dentists Being Connected – ACDA.com Creates Big Plans to Top the Search Engines

The American Cosmetic Dental Association is driving targeted information by creating the dental information superhighway, all local dental roads lead to ACDA.com.” That’s the philosophy of Zachary Hoffman a veteran CEO of Search Engine Operator, Inc. and founder of the American Cosmetic Dental Association (ACDA.com).

Zachary (Zach) has built a niche in dental practice online marketing services, supporting his clients from the ground up, through his network of sister companies.

The cornerstone of an online dental marketing campaign is a “Practice Identity Website”; sister company DentistryWebsites.com focuses on creating dental websites that take potential patients from the computer chair to the dental chair in a comfortable transition. Patients now have the added option of browsing ACDA.com where they get to know their future dentist from the comfort of their own homes.

Parent company Search Engine Operator, Inc. (SEO.cc) markets ACDA.com and private clients’ websites bringing in potential patients by means of a series of comprehensive search engine optimization procedures. Translated for the non-technical minded; Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of bringing an existing website to the top of a search engine’s results list for searches that include target (keywords) search terms.

Example: A cosmetic dentistry office in XYZcity would want their website to appear at the top of the results list when a potential patient searches Google.com or any search engine for:

cosmetic dentist XYZcity

teeth whitening XYZcity

XYZcity sedation dentist

The possibilities seem endless, but to SEO’s knowledgeable staff equipped with important statistics and research the objectives are defined, quantified and precisely targeted.

It’s the calculated application of knowledge to ACDA.com that will carry this dental directory to the top of the search engines’ results. As ACDA.com grows, all of its associated dentists will benefit directly.

Once inside the online dental directory of the American Cosmetic Dental Association the searching patient is literally just three simple clicks away from their new dentist.

1. Click on their state from a color divided map of the United States.

2. Click on the city of their residence from an alphabetical list.

3. Click on the field of dentistry in which they are in need (general dentistry, family dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, neuromuscular dentistry or orthodontics).

Within seconds of their third click ACDA.com has generated a list of associated dentists in their area. An easy to follow bank of introduction profiles appears where the patient can choose to see the dentists’ phone numbers, website address, e-mail address or even view a rating of the doctor from prior patients.

When the patient finds an introduction profile which strikes their interest they simply click “More Info >>” or click on the doctor’s picture and are then led into a fully interactive in depth summary of the doctor’s practice.

The new patient can read about the doctor’s focus in dentistry, click to get instant driving directions to the practice or learn more about the procedures available.

While many clients utilize ACDA.com to drive new traffic to their websites and practices, ACDA.com is critical to the practice without an existing website. American Cosmetic Dental Association allows a practice to setup an online presence instantly.

Referring to his “thinking outside of the box” methods to search engine optimization; Zach says “Of course we implement the textbook techniques here at Search Engine Operator, but so does everyone else. That is why we utilize many in house secrets to bypass the efforts of the competition.”

One textbook technique that ACDA.com is capitalizing on heavily is domain name forwarding. ACDA.com is currently forwarding more than 400 quality dental specific domain names to its website and is in negotiations for the acquisition of over 500 more.

For example if someone randomly attempts to go to DallasDentisrty.com they are automatically forwarded into the Dallas, TX section of ACDA.com. This technique helps to generate “Type In Traffic” as well as improving search engine rankings.

With an in depth background in search engine optimization (SEO), strategic alliances with forwarded domain names and a thorough understanding of the dentistry profession it seems that there may be nothing that can get in the way of the American Cosmetic Dental Association and ACDA.com from quickly becoming America’s Online Dental Directory.

  • Real Estate Article Marketing; Ka ching! Ka ching!
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Real Estate Articles are a great way of promoting your products and services. In many instances it can be accomplished at relativly little cost, and is a proven method of boosting your sales; doubling and even tripling it in some instances.

Here’s how it works!

Write articles relating to your website and submit them to “free content” submission sites. It’s easy to do, takes little time and can increase your website traffic, sales and of course, your income.

How can this be?

Well, your articles on free content sites contain links to your own website. Readers, after reading your articles, may choose to click on the link and pay you an unexpected visit.

Having them on the free content sites also makes them available to other webmasters who may wish to publish your articles on their sites. If they do, your article will include a link back to your site. And anyone who reads the article on that site can still click on the link to visit your site.

As the list of your published articles grows, and more and more of them are appearing on different websites, the total number of links to your site increases, too!

Major search engines are placing a lot of significance on incoming links to websites to determine the importance of the sites.

The more incoming links your website has, the more importance search engines will attach to it. This will then increase your website’s placement in the search results.

If you promote listings and other real estate services the links that your articles achieve will mean more potential customers for you. Even if visitors only browse through, you never know when they might be in need of what you are offering in the future.

There are also those who already have specific things they need on their mind but cannot decide yet between the many choices online. Chances are, they may stumble upon one of your articles, get interested by the content you wrote, go to your site and became enticed by your promotions. See how easy that is?

Search engines do not just index the websites, they also index published articles. They also index any article that is written about your website’s topic. So, once someone searches for that same topic, the list of results will have your site or may even show the articles that you have written.

And to think, no effort on your part was used to bring them to your site. Just your published articles and the search engines.

It is no wonder why many webmasters are suddenly reviving their old writing styles and taking time to write more articles about their sites than other means of promotion.

Getting their site known is easier if they have articles increasing their links and traffic and making it accessible for visitors searching the internet. Since many people are now taking their buying needs online, having your site on the search engines through your articles is one way of letting them know about you and your business.

The good thing with articles is that you can write about things that people would want to know about. This can be achieved in the lightest mood but professional manner, with a little not-so-obvious sales pitch added.

If you think about it, only a few minutes of your time is spent on writing one article and submitting to free content site. In the shortest span of time also, those are distributed to more sites than you can think of. Even before you know what is happening, you are getting more visitors than you previously had.

If you think you are wasting your time writing articles, fast forward to the time when you will see them printed and wide-spread on the internet. Not to mention the sudden attention and interest that people are giving your website and your products or services.

Try writing some articles and you will be assured of the sudden surge in site traffic, link popularity and interest. Before you know it you could be doubling and even tripling your earnings.

  • Where can i find dental patients?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I am a dental hygiene student looking for patients to meet graduation requirements. I need patients with a lot of build up (plaque/calculus/tartar). Where is a good place to look?

The best place to look is a child dominated area. Children don’t take care of their teeth as well as adults do. Also a senior citizen dominated area, would help just as well. Several of them are in need of dentures and root canals. A location in which there are numerous amounts of families would help as many of them would need a family doctor. I hope that helps.
