so i am a lil self concious about speaking spanish. mostly because i have family members who are from peru or grew up speaking it. i how ever didn’t. so with a little help from my family, and school and friends i know enough to get by. recently at the dental office where i work, my boss found out i speak some spanish, well alot more then i let on and now i am the one that deals with the spanish patients that are new. i am the interperator for both of them. like i said, it isnt perfect but i can get by, and i pretty much understand everything, remembering what or how to say it is somthing else.
anyways, i was asked the other day and have heard it before, "where did you learn spanish? school?" i tell them i learned a little from everywhere. is it a bad thing? is it really obvious if someone has learned it from school? i can tell sometimes dilect (sp?) or certains words that other countries use for certain things, i do try to steer clear of that. sounds mean but i would rather sound more like a peruvian than a mexican because that is where my family is from. but… i practice mostly with people from el salvador and mexico.
Yes, especially if one says some things incorrectly or has to hesitate to gather their thoughts. I can really tell on the internet who learned how to write spanish in school apart from the ones who speak it natively but never learned how to write it because the spelling is horrific yet the grammar is fine. Don’t be self concious though. There is nothing wrong with being of hispanic descent but not knowing the language. It isn’t your fault you weren’t taught. The patients probably don’t even care as long as you can get your point across.
I am having a hard time deciding what to do. Respiratory Therapy or Dental Hygiene? I went to shadow a Respiratory Therapist and they told me the job market for them is way down and its really hard to find a job. Is that true?
Both are good professions. Don’t be discouraged by the advice or comments of one individual. Hygiene is also down and the number of hygienists is increasing as new schools open up and the economy worsens. Choose the profession that is most satisfying for you and go for it! Good Luck
For my newspaper class, I am supposed to write an article examining the two extremes of political media: CNN and Fox News. I have no idea how or where to start. Any good suggestions?
1.) Think of a divisive issue. Health care, Iraq, Karzai in Afghanistan, Obama’s directive regarding medical marijuana, etc.
2.) Examine how a legitimate news network (any besides Fox) presents the issue.
3.) Examine how Fox "News" presents the issue.
4.) Compare.
5.) For another idea if you need to make the article longer, look at BBC or Der Speigel (German, but available in English) for a very reliable foreign view of the issue.
So I am on the search for a new job. I want to become a dental assistant but decided to enter the dental field as a receptionist first until I complete school. I start dental school in August 2010.
So far I emailed, called, and even faxed over resumes…most dentists want receptionists with dental experience?! How can I even get that, people need to start from somewhere, right?
So one dentist called for me to come in and fill out an application and I did. This was today. He did come out to meet me, but was with a patient and apologized that he couldn’t interview me right there and then and he said he’d look it over and give me a call.
That was about 8 hours ago. I didn’t get a call today, but maybe hopefully Monday. He knows I have no experience, but still told me to come in and fill out an application. I have 5 1/2 years of experience in the medical field and I do clinical work all the time.
Do I even have a chance of becoming a receptionist even without dental experience? I don’t know even know if any dentists want to waste their time on me….
I think you are qualified to be a receptionist. Be patient you will get one eventually cause there is a high demand for receptionists in a dental clinic. Have you ever thought of doctor clinic or x-ray places? Try even the hospital where the benefits are better. You should take those medical receptionist courses such as medical transcriptionist or health records technician or medical billing person cause they are really high demand.
Answer mines please?

i’m a freshmen and i am undeclared; i am transferring in the spring and want to have a double major. i am going to major in marketing but i also want to major in biology. i hope to become a orthodontist one day and i was wondering, can i go to dental school if i major in biology? [or chemistry?]
Unless there’s a pre-dental or pre-med program, bio or chem would be best.
And, may I suggest, rather than majoring in marketing, study business or finance or accounting instead. If you want to be a dentist, a clever marketing campaign can be purchased but you’ll need to be able to read your own books so you can make sure your office manager or partners aren’t stealing from you.
I know a doctor who is an OB-GYN. These have been sued out of existence in nearby counties, but this one was clever. He earned his J.D. and MBA, and sat for an passed the bar. When he gets sued for something, he can tell quickly whether it is ludicrous or meaningful, and he can defend himself quite well against the former.
I’m having to write an article for a magazine for a school project. I’ve got all the ground work done for what needs to be in the article, like whats hot right now, etc and i’ve got photo’s but i just don’t know how to start it. I need to set a tone and pull people in.
Anyone got any tips or advice? Any work you write here will not be used, i promise, but if needed will be used a guide to take inspriation and ideas from.
Thanks ![]()
What about:-
"Summer is over"
I’m away from home at college, & while I have a dentist at home, i’m having to go to a new dentist while away. My dentist is among those practicing in those dental chains (i.e. Castle dental),& I chose her because they offered a free exam&x-rays for first time patients,& since I pay out of pocket due to no dental insurance, this seemed like a good deal. Well, once I got there, they did the exam&x-rays,&then gave me a huge list of things I need to have done, totaling around $4,000 bucks. One high priced thing is some type of 2 part cleaning that I would have to make two visits for because apparently I might have gum disease. My regular dentist at home never mentioned anything to me about gum disease, so now i’m freaking out. I want to seek a second opinion but don’t want to offend the dentist (i’m very non confrontational). Because of the low cost, i’d like to keep going, but how do I tell her if I don’t want certain things done?
Well I would certainly get a second opinion. If you do have a gum disease, it needs to be treated soon. If left untreated, you can lose your teeth.
If you don’t want a second opinion, just tell the new dentist you are unable to pay for all of that because of no insurance and you just want done what is absolutely necessary.
I work independently with a great company that offers benefits at an affordable price. I chose this company because I felt great about helping people save on health care. Health care costs are ridiculous! However it seems that nobody cares about obtaining benefits at all. I know people tend to spend their money on things that they want and not things that they need. However there has to be someone out there that needs braces, or an eye exam, or a physical checkup…right? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I actually work in the Health &Human Services field in the State of Texas. I audit cases for individuals who are requesting Children’s Health Insurance or Medicaid. Thousands of those cases are denied as a result of exceeding income or resource limits. Most of the recipients who are denied do contact our call centers and ask what their other options are for obtaining Health and Dental insurance for thier families. I am quite shocked that people are not interested in what you are offering. Heck, my masseue just asked me if I knew of any places that sold Health Insurance.
I wouldn’t give up just yet if I were you. Maybe you need to get in contact with the Welfare offices in your area and ask them if you can post a flyer in their office that will direct people who are denied for medical insurance to you.
I am sure that it was either Entrepreneur or Inc., but I can’t find it anywhere. The article had colored bubbles and a large regression-type chart which showed where various businesses fall on various sales multiples. The purpose is to get an indication as to which multiples are most relevant for a sales price of the entire business (i.e, multiples of revenue are more important in some industries than multiples of cash flow, etc.)
Business Week has and so has Money Magazine.
