  • I am terrified of the dentist?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Im 16, im missing my front tooth and need a dental bridge (i think) i recently changed dentists because i was so afraid of my old one. She used to compare me to my brother and she was always putting me down. My new dentist is lovely and does what i want to do. She patient with me. When im in the dentist i get really pale and teary because of my fear :S i want to overcome this so i can have a nice smile and become more confident but i don’t know how :S any ideas?

I love the dentist.I look at it like this, dentist are your friend, they are there to help you and you know that when you’re at the dentist you’re bettering yourself in a way,so you can have a nice gleaming smile and be confidant.and that’s always a great thing.and honestly, after you leave the dentist it’s never as bad as you thought it was going to be.right? and you’re never in the dentist more than 20 minutes.you end up waiting for the dentist longer than anything.it’s the anticipation of pain that gets most people, and if that’s the case, just take a deep breath and tell yourself it will be over very soon.and if you’re still having trouble relaxing, ask for the gas, that’s why its there.as for your old dentist, she was just a haggard bag and you were right to find someone your comfortable with.

  • what is the best dental system to purchase for brushing, flossing, and periodontal care?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I have seen many different types of oral care systems on the market. Can someone suggest a system that they have tried, and found it to be truly beneficial? Is there a complete system for brushing, flossing(sonic)and includes a water pic. Thank You, serious answers please.

I really enjoyed the sonicare system. My dentist told me I had periodontal disease, and i immediately bought one, now, with regular flossing, i am fine.

  • I need to find a research article under the topic of plant cell organelle components?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I need to read and analyze a research article under the topic of plant cell organelle components. However, I am having a difficult time finding and article which I can understand. All of the articles I am finding require a lot of knowledge about the topic, which I do not have. How can I find an article that I can read and comprehend?

What is the subject of your research paper? Are you explaining the parts or more in-depth. I found a website that shows the basic parts of the organelle (see source below).

  • Need a new job, but I have mental issues, what can I do?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Well, to preface this, I’d have to say I’m in agony at my current job. I work as a receptionist for a dental office. Being antisocial to begin with, it’s really hard to do. I was hired for an IT position and still do the IT for the office when it’s necessary, but the office is so small that there’s not much need for a full-time IT person, so I’ve been doing front desk work too.

I’ve been here for 4 years and make around $15/hr. My wife and I are doing ok, but have trouble making ends meet right now.

What we both need is a better paying job, and I’d like to find one that I can do that would be better for someone that has my issues.

I have an unclassified short-term memory disorder, which was only recently confirmed as such, due to my family and peers always saying I had a "selective memory". I have trouble remembering what I just did, or what I’m getting ready to do.

I also have social anxiety, which I was medicated for until recently, when apparently my body became resistant to whatever is in my medications.

I have a history of panic attacks that can be triggered by stress, so an angry patient at the office can shut me down for a good chunk of the day. An angry boss can be just as bad, even if the anger is not towards me, if it is reared in my direction I freeze up.

The only reason I still have my job is that I have family connections (My godmother is the owner of the business).

I don’t know what to do. Losing my job, or taking a lower paying job would result in my wife and I losing something important. Between a mortgage we were lied to by the broker about, and a student loan I didn’t know about until I was being sent to collections, we’re stretched super-thin, and the "little things" we always seem to need, desperately, are making it so we have trouble eating healthily (junk food is a lot cheaper than healthy food, and we don’t eat out).

I know I’m ranting. I’m sorry. I need to find a job that someone who has trouble interacting with people, and who also has memory and occasional regression issues can do effectively. I’m trained in IT, but that was about 5 years ago. I’m good with computers, it’s about all I’m good with. I’ve tried looking at pure IT jobs but they all seem to start out as tech support and I can’t do that.

I also have trouble during interviews, as the stress of being grilled can shut me down.

So basically, I’m at a loss as to where to look, who to turn to, what I should do, how to get through the adjustment period, and if I should even try looking. Please help me, someone.
Thanks for everyone that replied

As far as ADA laws, I looked up the EEOC and the laws only apply to businesses with 15 or more employees. Were I to seek official diagnosis right now, I could run into trouble with my current job (8 employees, including the owner).

Starting a home computer business on the side? Maybe I’m confused but supporting angry customers would be just as bad at home as it would be in an office.

I think you need to see a licensed mental health care professional as soon as possible. There is sure to be some available to you on a sliding scale in your area. That is what you really need because a professional can help you manage your problems. You may also have some flexibility if your problems are diagnosed by a doctor. If this is the case, you may be eligible for disability accommodations in any job YOU APPLY FOR or are working in. Check into the ADA laws online. Good luck to you.

  • Market price for dental cleaning & checkup in Sydney, NSW?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Hi. I am travelling through Australia and am currently in Sydney. My partner and I wish to have our teeth checked and cleaned. We don’t have access to a medical subsidy (medicare?) and hence would be paying full price. What should I expect to pay? I’ve contacted several firms, but their prices seem quite high (double) compared to Canadian prices for dental work (even with foreign exchange, "city" premium, etc.)

Thanks.

YES THE PRICES YOU WERE GIVEN ARE CORRECT AND PREPARE TO PAY FOR YOUR SERVICE YOU WILL GET. CASH PRICES WILL VARY AND ARE USUALLY HIGHER

  • What is a modern article that is similar to the Tragedy of the Commons article?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I need a modern article that speaks of similar views as the Tragedy of the Commons.

many potential webpages

most ecological problems are caused by the ‘Tragedy of the Commons’
Overfishing -
http://www.uvm.edu/~gflomenh/VTLAW-EcoEcon/papers/paper1/Belloti-1.doc
http://www.oceanchampions.org/ending-overfishing.html
try googling ‘overfishing’ and ‘economics’.

Global Warming
http://www.greens.org/s-r/24/24-26.html
again try googling ‘global warming’ and ‘tragedy of the commons’

not sure what level of depth you are after. there are a lot serious articles (economist.com is a good source) but many are behind paywalls. most of the freely available stuff is blogs, opinions or from environmental organisations (they’re still generally accurate and informative, just may not technically be ‘articles’)

  • American Dental Care in NJ closes without telling us? (see details)?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Okay I`ve had my braces for about a year now and I`ve gone to the american dentist care located in quakerbridge, nj. I was about to get them off at my next appointment when all of a sudden I get a call from some new dentist place saying ADC no longer exists (they were bought out) and not even gives the courtesy to call us about this. And the place that bought them out doesn`t even have an orthodontist so I`m going to have to find another one? Hell no! I made all my payments already! How sick a joke is that?! Just up and leave all your patients without telling them? Can`t they be sued for that? And I can`t even call the regular secretaty Sandy who scheduled all my past appointments or my dentists, Dr.Vives, because all the calls gets forwarded to the place that bought them out?
What am i supposed to do now? *so extremely pissed off*

You need to report this to the New Jersey Dental Association and state board of dentistry. You also probably have the right to sue, since you already paid, plus they are required to tell you and have someone to back them up if you have an emegency (an orthodontist no a dentist).

  • I am a Marketing Director for a really small firm. I need a jod change to make more money. Ideas?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I am a marketing Director for a really small firm in a rural community. I would like to leave my current job and find a higher paying one in my small community. What options do I have? I have heard pharmaceutical sales and dental supply sales to name a few.

I understand Hillary is interviewing for personnel for her campaign for the presidency. Of course, you’d have to be willing to travel! And, it would probably be a "temporary position," but who knows? don’t be afraid to change your life!

  • Can I include actual quotes from a news article in a fictitious story based upon the news article?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I have written a short story (fiction) based upon an actual event that was covered by the news. In my story, I wish to include actual quotes from the news article that was written about that event. What are the rules governing this? Please advise and give me some good sources of reference, if you can. Thank You.

Public information is free. You can quote from any source provided you keep the information true. You can only be sued if you misquote or write information that you cannot prove is true.

Hope this helps!
