I have been searching threads desperate for a way to get mine off before they ruined my teeth. My sister removed here herself, when my mother couldn’t afford to pay, and her teeth are fine, but I didn’t want to risk it. However it is a lose lose situation, can’t afford to maintain nor take of or risk permanent discoloration of my enamel after a year of not having it maintained. My orthodontist knew i was going to grad school on the east coast before he put them on. I didn’t anticipate how hard it would be to find somebody who took transfer patients. Many said they don’t accept transfers, or they would have to remove their work and 8 months of progress and start over. I didn’t want to waste that $ and time, but nobody really did the damon system.
A year later, with a couple brackets gone and wire cutting into my jaw (I couldn’t even have local orthodontists fix that without becoming a patient) I resorted to using nail clippers to fix (totally easy to do btw) . However with the missing brackets= less tension and i could see my teeth shifting back, progress ruined (all that pain and money for nothing). This prisoner in my mouth feeling is awful. You pay a fortune to get them on, but outside orthodontists called it unethical to take them off, they are all in cahoots, an oligopoly, requiring release forms, asking for more than what it cost to install. Hello! its unethical to let people’s teeth get permanently ruined when they had a problem in the first place, adding insult to injury.
In medicine doctors have to treat patients regardless of who’s patient they were previously, and ability to pay. It is unethical to refuse treatment. imagine if you had cub feet, and needed your foot broken and reset to walk properly, and you paid the doctor to put the cast on etc. Then you could no longer afford to pay and he left you in your cast until your muscles completely atrophied permanently ruining any chances of walking again, leaving you worse off than you started.
I called several places in the bay area california (my last residence) New york (current residence), and fresno california (hometown). There are 2 places in california, one in oakland, my original orthodontist that will do it for $200 which is better than some of the quotes ($1500) that place requires a panorex which is more money if you are like me paying out of pocket. A place in alameda does a flat fee of $215 didn’t mention needing xrays. It bugs me that they need xrays! I don’t want a retainer! The cheapest by far is $100 WOW that was what i was hoping to pay. The receptionist said she knows that they are the cheapest. They are located in fresno,ca. So either call around fresno or email me. I am not going to post, simply because I’m suspicious of the dental associations and their so called ethic, i don’t want this ortho office to be targeted as "unethical" defector, simply because they take the hippocratic oath seriously and don’t want to see people come out of orthodontics worse than how they came in.
In my case I lost my job and insurance and my grad school COLUMBIA (ironically studying medicine and public health lol) didn’t cover orthodontists. I have read a lot of threads a lot coming from innocent children whose parents couldn’t afford it and their orthodontists refusing to take them out for free for the child’s sake. This should be illegal! So next time i will try invisalign because they are a retainer and if i can’t afford to continue treatment at least i won’t lose progress, nor will i worry about my teeth staining, or cheeks being prodded by wire! I was hoping universal health care would happen so that me and my posterity would laugh at how inane and cruel our health care system was, but looks like that too is being repealed! Email me if you want to get these off for CHEAP! I Don’t want others to go through this!!!!!!!!!!!

Altmed enthusiasts such as Osteopaths claim to treat only willing patients with informed consent. Is this really true?
I found this appeal on the website of a New Zealand-based Osteopath soliciting osteopathic treatment of babies:
——————————————————————————–
SO WHO NEEDS CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?
Almost all people can benefit from the use of Cranial Osteopathy at some stage in their lives. This may vary from birth trauma, both for the mother and the child….particularly if there has been trauma to the head….small trauma like dental work, through to major head injuries following car accidents and the like.
HOW DO BABIES BENEFIT FROM CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?
During birth the bones of a babies skull are compressed and will often overlap each other. Following the birth the bones will try to reform into their normal positions to allow the inner movement of the brain, the fluid and the containment membranes to take place. Commonly not all the positions are how the body would like it to be, and when this happens the body must now attempt to compensate for these malpositions. These compensations will often cause the baby to become unsettled in a variety of ways, as the babies body tries to come to terms with the problems that exist. Some of these problems may lead to colic, poor sleeping ability, poor feeding ability or just crying or unsettled.
The Osteopath, working cranially, will locate the areas in the babies body where the problems exist, and facilitate the babies body to release these areas of tension and take away the bodies compensations that are causing the problems. The baby should be more relaxed and a far happier child.
Glue ear in children responds very well to cranial work, likewise many conditions that need the immune system to be at best. Things like tonsillitis, colds, and stomach problems like colic and reflux all are much helped by getting the babies system working at its best.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL MY BABY NEED?
The number of treatments will depend on the problems that the Osteopath finds when the child is examined. Some children need only minimal treatment and others require quite extensive treatment.
———————————————————————————
Help me understand this. Do "Cranial Osteopaths" really claim to "cure" glue ear by feeling pulses in the skull, or is "cure" a word-that-must-not-be-mentioned in Osteopathic circles? Colds? Colic? Poor Eating habits? Trauma to the Head? All treated by the ten magic fingers of a Osteopath with no medical training?
What kind of conditions in a baby require "extensive" Osteopathic "treatment"?
Should this be allowed? Or should Osteopathic "treatment" be limited to patients who have reached the age of consent — like tattoos and nose plugs maybe?

@Moblet:
Just a few clarification to put your response in perspective:
Elsewhere, you state you are a "hypochondriac" who found relief because your osteopath diagnosed internal parasites and certain "subtle" structural problems by palpating your skull.
You believe in homeopathy and diagnostic acupuncture.
You say you are a "scientist" but elsewhere you state your degree is in Maths.
Your response can be refuted in detail.
Osteopathy is one of the most bizarre and colorful pseudomedical cults of the 19th. Century. It was somewhat reformed in the 1950s, but some of the teachings of the cult’s founder persist. What you cite is an example of an impermissable activity.
US Constitution
Article 1
Section 9,
No Person holding any Office shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.
President Obama is chairman of the UN Security Counsel.
The United nations which is headquarter in New York is not a King, Prince, or a foreign State.
He does not. Neocons do not even know what they are talking about. Their goal is to smear and to demonize President in any possible way. Some of them even claim that President Obama is an Alien from outer space.
So I’m a brand new dentist, and I’ve always had a phobia of vomit. That being said it happens in the dental office, I’ve never experienced it until today, when one of my patients threw up after gagging while x-ray’s were being taken. I panicked and went into a full blown anxiety attack. I’m not about to quit my job, I’m determined to remove this phobia from my life, but I’d like to know what is the best way to beat a phobia such as this one?
EMETOPHOBIA: Fear of vomit(ing)/throwing up, is the 7th most common of the phobias.
It may be related to stress, panic, or anxiety, so check out those topics at http://www.your-mental-health.weebly.com/1.html and pages m, h, and i. Find a clinical psychologist who deals with phobia. Google: "clinical psychologists; (your location)" Closely examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ & http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites.
Hypnotherapy, or NeuroLinguistic Programming may be effective. It is important, however, to address the cause of the problem, rather than just the symptom, or it may manifest again in a different form. Most people are suggestible, to some extent, so consider professional hypnotherapy, or more along such lines is on page V, at Weebly.
