  • Can you get a free dental health check up on the NHS?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Hi :)

I have an EXTREME phobia of the dentist, so I have avoided going for about 4 years now. I used to pay dental plan which is fine because it’s pay monthly, but because I haven’t been for a while I will have to pay upfront for a check up and a new patient examination and including all the X-rays it will be really really expensive.

Can you get a check up for free at an NHS clinic? I heard you can but don’t know how to go about it?

Thanks :)

Hey there..
Yes you can get a check up for free.. with a NHS dentist.. but you have to be on one of the following benefits:

Job Seekers Allowence (J.S.A)
Income Support
Employment Support Allowence (E.S.A)
Working Tax Credits
Child Tax Credits
Maternity Leave
Nursing Mother (Until Baby is 1 yr old)
HC2 exemption
UNder 18
18 and in full time education..

If you get none of thease benefits ask your dentist or dental receptionsit for a HC2 application form they will give you one and fill it out and pop it in the post. you make get fully exempt which means all of it paid for you. or partial exempt which only means they will pay half and you will pay the other half.

If you need to pay for your NHS treatment.
NHS treatment works in 3 diffrent bands
you have a band 1, a band 2 and a band 3

Band 1.. £17.00
The band one payment includes.. Check up, X-Ray, Scale & Polish

Band 2.. £47.00
The band two payment.. (INCLUDES EVERYTHING FROM BAND 1) & Fillings.. Extractions.. Root Cannal.. and Adittions

Band 3.. £204.00
The band three payment.. (INCLUDES EVERYTHING IN BAND 1 & 2) & Crowns.. Veeners.. Dentures ( Full or Partial)..

So if you dont get any of the benefits that i wrote out.. you wont be exempt from paying.. so it means you will have to pay at least £17.00 Band 1 payment for a check up and if you want a scale and polish or x.ray..
If you need anytihng else done they will give you a contract.. to sign and tell you how much it is.. if you needed a crown which cost £204.00.. and you could not afford it.. tell them that you cnat afford it at this moment in time and you would like to send away the HC2 form to see if you can get any help with paying for the treatment.

But if you get any of the benifits that i wrote.. it means you are exempt and you dont have to pay for your treatmet.. alls you do is go in and make an appointment and they will get you to sign a form afterwards and ask which benefit you recive and that alls you have to do.

Even if you do have to pay.. go and have a check up done anyway.. alls yu will have to pay is Band 1 which is £17.00 and you dont have to get any other treatment done if you dont want to its completly up to you..

Sorry bout this messege being sooo long.
But thouht i would explain everything.
Hope this has helped
and Good Luck..x

  • Nursing shortage a LIE??? (Northern Virginia)?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

I’m currently a highschool student

I’ve been thinkigna bout becoming a nurse for some time now
I’ve been hearing from articles..career websites..and other places that there is a nursing shortage

I went on a forum ..and it tells me the complete opposite.

This is just ONE of the many things I’ve read

"

I have been a nurse for over 20 years. I am very disturbed by the current trend in nursing. For years nursing schools have been pushing this nursing shortage story. Well, it seems the the shortage is over! My wife just graduated from nursing school and has not had any success landing a job. Even nursing homes are looking for a BSN and 3-5 years experience.

Even more disturbing is the downward trend in nursing salaries. I am hearing about the few new RNs who are getting jobs are accepting very low salaries. This is going to put downward pressure on the entire profession. Even worse, hospitals are still bringing in "experienced" foreign nurses that is further reducing the job pool.

It is time for nurses to take control of the profession. We need to contact our governmental officials and be sure they are aware of the realities we are currently facing. They need to stop giving greedy nursing schools money to enlarge RN programs that will continue to turn out unemployed RNs. Most of the media still thinks there is a shortage. Every day I read an article about how high the demand is for nurses. Guess again."

Is this true?……
I was confident that there really was a nursing shortage..but so many people seem to be having a hard time finding a job.

I don’t want to enter the nursing program if this is true..
Also, does anyone know if dental hygienists in the norther VA area are able to find jobs?

Also, I heard that nurses are ABUSED quite often by patients..but it remains to be no big deal"..

Nurses, or anyone who knows what they’re talking about… please help me out!!

Thank You.

Yes, there is a QUALIFIED nursing shortage in many places in the country. I know a lot of people who’ve just graduated from college with the RN/BSN. Having a bachelor’s degree along with the RN is much more impressive to employers (although not necessary). It may also be necessary to move to a different city or state, but a lot of people just look at where they are living because they don’t want to move.

-Employers want EXPERIENCE. It is true there is a nursing shortage, but if you don’t have experience working in a hospital, chances are, you aren’t going to get hired. For a new nurse, if you don’t have experience working as a volunteer, candy striper or as a nurse’s aid, your resume is going to get passed over.

-Also, in order to be a nurse, you need to be reliable. When they call one of your previous employers and if they found out that you got fired for not showing up- they aren’t going to hire you.

-Also, most hospitals I know of will not hire nurses if they’ve been convicted of a crime or got a DUI.

-Hospitals WILL look at your grades and test scores.

A lot of schools will accept somebody into a program (for example, if you’re a felon, you can get into a nursing school and get your RN- but when it’s time to hire someone, no one will want a convicted felon being their nurse) and they accept people with absolutely no hospital experience.

If I were you, I wouldn’t pick dental hygienist because that’s a hyped technical career and stick with a safer bet of nursing. When you are in high school, volunteer as a candy striper. Then, when you are in college, get your CNA certificate and start working your way up. If you just go to the school and never get a job in a hospital, you will have a hard time finding a job without any medical expereince.

  • Dental Sedation – How does it feel?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Hi, i’m a really nervous patient when it comes to dental treatment.

I’ve previously had a tooth removed and fillings (and i’m even worse when having simple things like a scale & polish done – i have to have the nurse hold my hand!!)

My current dentist doesnt provide sedation, only the local anaesthetic injection. to be honest i dont really like my dentist anyway (plus the surgery is a bit ahem, grubby, lol. So i’ve been looking for a new dentist and have found one that provides sedation (1.inhaled sedation or 2. IV sedation) – i would probably go for the inhaled sedation. By my query is to people that have had it is:
1. How do you feel under sedation
2. Do they still administer local anaesthetic
3. How do you feel during and after the procedure
4. Any side effects??

Thanks in advance as i need to get my new dentist sorted asap as i currently have toothache :-(

heyy

i also hate anything to do with dentist, hospitals and needles lol i had to have 2 teeth out for my braces to be fitted and i decided to have a sedation from a needle i was really nervous before he injected me but as soon as it went into my system i was asleep within seconds and i couldn’t even feel the pain.
while i was under i had a dream that i was in world war too lol =/ (random) im not sure if you always have dreams if you go to sleep through sedation but this was the 2nd time ive been sedated and ive had dreams both times lol.

when i woke up i felt a little woozy and i wasn’t sure what was going on for about 5 minutes then i felt fine and walked away feeling a little light headed.

after a week or 2 i was back to my normal self again

i hope that helps reassure you and sorry for my bad grammar lol

  • Can I pay my infant son for marketing for my small business?
    posted by Kris Nickerson

Hang some pictures of him in my dental office to encourage people to bring their young children in.
I posted the question b/c I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject. I would appreciate an answer that makes sense and isn’t accusatory (Thanks, Sandra). Babies are paid all the time by companies that produce baby food, clothing, etc. I just would like to know if this is an option for my situation.

Do you file taxes? Do you use your son as an exemption? And you will be. Cashing your sons checks? Don’t you think that’s fraud? God bless you
